The UFP can offer foundations for Science, Business and Finance, Engineering, Social Science and Humanities related degrees.
Separate to this there is also a UFP in Art and designthat can lead to Interior Design, Fine Art, Fashion or similar degrees.
The UFP has two start dates per year:
September to June
January to August
The UFP academic year is designed so that all students are ready to commence their university degree the following academic year in September.
Students study six modules in total, which are spread over the duration of the course in order to provide an even workload.
3 Minor Modules in pre-determined subjects
3 Major Modules relevant to the student's future degree programme. Students choose which three major modules they wish to study.
* UFP Art and Design students follow a different course structure.
Minor Modules
Phase 1
MATHEMATICS*
Both Pure Maths and Statistics are studied.
INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (IT)
Students learn to use word processing programmes, spreadsheet and databases.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Students develop study skills (such as effective reading methods and essay-writing) and oral communication skills (such as public speaking and group discussion).
Three minor modules are compulsory for all students, and are studied during phase 1. The subjects have been identified as providing fundamental skills needed for any academic programme at university level. The courses in Mathematics and IT equip the student with essential skills in numeracy and computing, and the Communication Skills/IELTS course prepares the student for the demands of a degree course by building their skills in research, report writing and presentation.
